Hey BFFs! With all the cold temps and snow storms sweeping the nation, I’m staying in by the fire and reading during January! So, I’m catching up quickly on my to read list and have a good one to share with you. This was my first book by author Whitney G.,“On A Tuesday.” This is the first stand-alone in her new One Week series.

The story is a second chance romance about two college sweethearts who barely got their love story started before they went their separate ways, and then are unexpectedly reunited years later.

It would be easy to fall into stereotypes with these characters and this story line, but both characters were dynamic and surprising at times.

Grayson is the school’s all-star senior quarterback bound for the NFL with a reputation as player off the field, too. But, behind the image, there’s much more to him. Charlotte is his opposite in every way, a reserved, serious prelaw student with a love for art. She is closed off to relationships after a series of dating disasters, and Grayson seems like another in a long line of jerks she’s encountered.

In all these years at the same school, they have never crossed paths until they are thrown together as seniors, when Charlotte is assigned to tutor Grayson. She is definitely not open to Grayson’s immediate flirtation, keeping their weekly Tuesday tutoring session all business. But, he is up to the challenge. It is not often that he has to chase a girl, and he’s sure this one is worth the wait.

I found myself completely charmed by Grayson’s relentless quest to get more than tutoring from Charlotte. As I read, I was laughing and smiling at his efforts to win her over, as if he was sitting across the table from me on Tuesdays at the coffee shop. Eventually, as their friendship develops, Charlotte is charmed too, and surprised to realize she may have misjudged Grayson. She lets him in slowly, and their relationship grows serious. But, as quickly as it began, it is all abruptly over, with many unanswered questions, and the future they imagined together will seemingly never come to be.

I was cheering for them to find their way back together, though, when we catch up with them years later. They are both professionally successful and leading their own lives. But, it is hard for either of them to hide that they are both still very affected by their attraction and the unspoken, unfinished business between them. Seeing each other again, they both wonder if they can bear to open the old wounds, face the past, and attempt to mend their broken hearts. And, if they do, can they move forward, together or apart?

In addition to great character development, I loved Whitney G’s writing style. She crafted very realistic, comfortable dialogue for the characters, and the story included entertaining believable supporting characters surrounding the main couple. The pacing of the story was spot on. The use of flashbacks and alternating perspective created the angsty story that slowly fills in the blanks, but keeps you guessing along with the characters about how it will all end! I’m looking forward to more in this series!

Christina Lauren consistently delivers incredible books. They’re full of heart and humor, clever and charming characters and heartwarming storylines. Roomies proves the consistency of this rule! Holland and Calvin are each searching for their own fulfillment. They want to lead meaningful and enjoyable lives, but they’re both a little stuck for a variety of reasons.

They come together in a marriage of convenience that quickly becomes a marriage of love and mutual adoration. Their journey to discover themselves and discover each other is absolutely delightful. This was a combo read and listen and both were equally compelling. This title comes with a little higher price point, but it’s worth every penny!

Review – Beautiful Mistake by Vi Keeland

The first time I met Caine West was in a bar.

He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out.

When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass.

You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend–smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married.

He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he’d done.

Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant.

Only it turned out, the man I’d just told off wasn’t the right guy.

Oops. My mistake.

I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right?

That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning.

Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant.

BFF K’s Review of Beautify Mistake

Beautiful Mistake is a deeper read than my usual rom-com. It’s filled with angst and tension. Caine West and Rachel Martin have so much baggage between the two of them you need a wagon and a flashlight to sort through it all. There is so much tension and sexual frustration, you can feel it seeping out of the pages. They don’t like each other. But, yet they do….they really, really do. That back and forth makes up the majority of the storyline. Until about 70% in and you’re hit with a bombshell. (More insightful readers might see the twist coming, I was caught by surprise.)

Vi Keeland does an excellent job creating characters that you want to cheer for. You’ll want Rachel and Caine to work out their issues and find a way to be together. That back and forth drives you from page to page from the beginning to the end of the book. (The book also has a remarkable, spiritual passage about coincidence that I absolutely love and completely agree with. There’s plenty of steam and lots of twists and turns to get to the culmination of their journey. In some ways, it almost seemed like all of the issues were wrapped up a little too nicely. In some cases the solutions to the problems in their lives and relationships, seemed a little too cleanly and easily solved. But, if you can suspend that reality, this is an enjoyable read, with an unexpected twist and I highly recommend Beautiful Mistake!

BFF K’s Review of When It’s Real

Oakley Ford and Vaughn Bennett could not be more different. At least that’s what it looks like to those on the outside. And, it shocks Oakley’s Fandom when he begins a relationship with Vaughn. After all, she’s NORMAL, just like them. But, the fans don’t know that this relationship begins as a set up. It’s 100% promotion meant to clean up Oakley’s bad boy image. The feelings and emotions shared by Oak and Vaughn are soon very real, but neither quite know what to do When It’s Real.

The dynamic duo that is Erin Watt (Jen Frederick and Elle Kennedy) is absolutely fantastic yet again! They have delivered another story with compelling characters and an engaging storyline that will draw you in and leave you wanting more! When It’s Real is more of a slow burn than the intense, fast-pace of the Royals Series by Erin Watt. But, the story is interesting and the characters possess the same wit, charm and banter that I expect from these authors.

When It’s Real is billed as more of a Young Adult read. The character’s ages are definitely YA, however there are a couple of steamy-ish scenes (that I loved) that would prevent me from handing it over to the 16-year-olds I know. I actually wish that the characters would have been a little older and the book skewed New Adult instead. BUT, that being said, I still loved the book.

If you’re looking for a wonderful story with characters that you’ll fall in love with while they fall in love with each other, When It’s Real is a must one-click! I hope Erin Watt plans to write many, many, many, many more books together because I want to read them all!

Bringing Rose on at PPI has proven to be one of my best decisions ever. Not only is she the best assistant I could have hired, I get to have her near me all of the time. Win-win.

But not everyone is happy about Rose’s employment at the firm. Wendy is less than thrilled, but I’m proud of the way Rose handles herself. Kill her with kindness. That’s Rose’s MO where Wendy is concerned, yet she has this clever way of putting the woman in her place.

Rose is sitting on my office sofa. She’s in deep concentration reading the paperwork for PPI’s newest property so she doesn’t notice me looking over to steal glances at her.

“Tell me. What do you think I want?” I’m curious to see how far I can take this conversation. How much I can get her to admit about the way she interprets my gaze. She might be inexperienced, but surely she can see I want her.

She turns her head.

And waves.

And smiles.

That smile makes me feel like I can do this. Like I can win her heart again. Mine pounds faster as I near her, and it’s not just because I happen to think she’s the most stunning woman I’ve ever seen, but because of who she is.

I arrive at her side, and she straightens. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

There’s that awkwardness again, and I want no part of it today. Like the bungee jumper I am, I lean in and dust a quick kiss on her lips. At first, she freezes. That won’t fucking do at all. My tongue darts out, flicking her top lip. A soft breath escapes her, and she gives in. Her sweet lips linger on mine, sending a charge down my spine. My brain leapfrogs ahead, and I picture scooping her up in my arms, carrying her to a quiet little patch of trees, and kissing her till she begs me to take her home.

I want that badly—I want her to beg for it because she’s at her happiest when she’s overcome—but I suspect it’s too soon for her.

Not to mention, screwing in Central Park usually results in a public citation. Public fornicators are never as clandestine as they think they are.

I nibble lightly on her bottom lip for a few seconds, drawing out a throaty murmur from her. Then I somehow find the will to separate.

She blinks. Several times. She sways the slightest bit, like her feet barely touch the ground. Good. I want her to be affected.

She furrows her brow. “I’m sorry, but do we kiss now when we see each other in the park?”

“Evidently we do.”

“Weird. Because I didn’t get that memo.”

I rock on my heels. “Want me to take it back?”

“The kiss or the memo?”

“The memo,” I say matter-of-factly, like this is all so obvious. “You can’t take a kiss back.”

“You sure on that, Nichols?”

“I can try to take back the kiss. Want me to, sweet girl?” I use the term of endearment I once called her. She doesn’t blanch, and that’s a damn good sign.

She smirks. “Be my guest.”

I kiss her once more, like I’m reversing the lip lock, doing it all in rewind, pulling away ever so slowly, ever so softly, leaving her dazed once more.

Perfect.

If she can drive me this crazy, make me this hard, send the temperature in my blood to beyond incendiary, the least I can do is return the favor.

Judging from her reaction, I’m doing it right.

I gesture from her to me. “Like that. I think that’s how you take back a kiss.”

Chuckling, she nods to the running path. “Ready for me to kick your ass?”

Every competitive bone in my body snaps to attention. “We’ll see about that,” I say, then I smack her pink nylon covered behind.

Her eyes widen, saying oh-no-you-didn’t.

But there’s a twinkle in those baby browns that says the lady might like spanking.

That’s new, and it’s most interesting.

I pencil in a new item on my mental to-do list. Find out how much she likes spanking. I never spanked her in college—just wasn’t part of the repertoire. But judging from her response now, I’m more determined than ever to find out everything she likes in and out of bed.
